Reno, NV

We learned about rocks and why we shouldn't go to the casino tonight!

Did you know that 80% of the population of Nevada lives in Reno and Las Vegas?

Or how about the fact that Nevada is the driest state in the USA!?

Or how about the fact that gambling was made illegal in 1910?

Reno is the county seat of Washoe County, Nevada, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 180,480, making it the second-largest city in Nevada. Current census estimates, however, show the city's population has grown to approximately 214,000 but the city is now the third largest in the state, following Las Vegas and Henderson. Reno lies 26 miles north of the Nevada state capital, Carson City, and 22 miles northeast of Lake Tahoe in the high desert. The area of western Nevada and the California Sierra Nevada anchored by Reno has a population of approximately 650,000. Reno shares its eastern border with the city of Sparks. Reno, known as "The Biggest Little City in the World", is famous for its casinos, and is the birthplace of the gaming corporation Harrah's Entertainment. Reno residents are referred to as "Renoites."

Journal:

Today I put a quarter into each of two gambling machines. They both got a match of three oranges. I got three oranges out of each of them. RATS!

Yellowstone National Park

We met Jacob today and he told us the wonderful story of Yellowstone! It was great! He also showed us around the park... what a place!!

Did you know that this was the first National Park in the world? What an amazing place with so much to see! We could spend a week here!

Yellowstone National Park, set aside as a national park on March 1, 1872, is located mostly in the U.S. state of Wyoming, though it also extends into Montana and Idaho. The park was the first of its kind, and is known for its wildlife and geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular areas in the park.

Missoula, MT

We met Steve from Missoula today and taught us all about this great city!! He loves to hunt Elk and to fish the Clark Fork River!

Did you know that Missoula has a city wide read in once a year! This town loves to read and it shops up in their community! The Clark Fork River was filthy, so what did they do? Blame others? No! They cleaned it up as a group. They think on their feet. The river front is beautiful with sculptures and views that warm the heart. What a completely awesome town!

Journal:

Today I went to Missoula, MT. I went on a boat ride on the Clark Fork River. It was very interesting. I also got to see how the two rivers behave and what their natural habitat looks like.

Glacier National Park, MT

This is an amazing place!! Talk about beauty and wonder!! It has been a while since I have been here and I am glad to be back!!

We are going to ride our bikes up "Going to the Sun Road." It should be tough!!

Glacier National Park is dominated by mountains which were carved into their present shapes by the huge glaciers of the last ice age. Evidence of widespread glacial action is found throughout the park in the form of U-shaped valleys, glacial cirques,arĂȘtes and large outflow lakes radiating like fingers from the base of the highest peaks.

We had s'mores at the campfire!!

Journal Entry:
Today I went to the visitors center. I watched a movie of the formation of a glacier with time accelerated where 1 year equals 1 minute. Then I watched a movie about of the glacier with time accelerated where 1 year equals 1 minute.

Spokane, WA

Beautiful city with tons to do! I learned so much about Spokane that I didn't know! Every city in the US has so many wonderful secrets! The parks here are great and the sculptures bring the city to life. They even have a city clock that is still wound by hand!

Bike shop Joe told us about gears on a bike. It is quite the system.

Journal:
Today I went to the car rental place to get a car to drive. While I was in Spokane, Washington I got a 1979 station wagon. It didn't look nice in the back because there was a dent in the bumper. The back light was knocked out. After that I went to get 8 apple pies and got 27 on the go coffees at Dunn Brothers. They were coolers.

(13)

Today I was enjoying a nice cup of coffee with Mr. E. When he unexpectedly took his shoes and socks off. I almost fainted. I ran down the block. Mr E. said, "What happened?"

Seattle, WA

For all of the coffee drinkers out there, we are in the city where Starbucks started. It even smells like coffee here. It also smells like fish. We went to the fish market today, those guys are crazy. They love there job so much that they made a video about it called "Fish." They were very funny and very nice.

There are some similarities between San Francisco and Seattle, they deal with earthquakes and they had their own gold rush.

The Space Needle was awesome. We ate lunch up there today!

Journal Update:

Today I went to "FISH!" I helped throw the fish and I helped wrap the fish. I earned $150 and bought new tires for 2EE!

I also went to the Space Needle. The restaurant was good, the view was GREAT!!

I worked some more at the fish market and earned $250. I bought new cassettes (gears) for everyone in 2EE.

Roseberg, OR

It is still pretty warm here. We have heard that it is cold in Minnesota. I hope you are all well!

Ranger Dave told us that Crater Lake is a caldera lake in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and famous for its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly 4,000 feet caldera that was formed by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama.

On June 12, 1853, John Wesley Hillman was reportedly the first European American to see what he named "Deep Blue Lake" in Oregon. The lake was renamed at least three times, as Blue Lake, Lake Majesty, and finally Crater Lake.

Crater Lake is known for its famous piece of driftwood named the "Old Man of the Lake." It is a full-sized tree that has been bobbing vertically in the lake for more than a century. Due to the cold water of the lake, the tree has been rather well preserved.

Ranger Dave told us about the Rain shadow too. We did an experiment that explained the rain shadow and showed us the three states of matter in action!!

Journal Update:

Today we saw a ranger. His name was Ranger Dave. He showed us an experiment how something frozen turns to a liquid and then a gas. Before you knew it there was no water in the pan.

(25)

There’s a lake that once was a volcano. In that volcano there is a log in the water that’s pointing straight up like a bobber. They call it “The Old Man in the Lake.” There is also Wizard Island.

Then we went to the New Year's party. Everyone had fun doing the thing at 12 o'clock.

Sleep over Party

I went to my friends house. It was for her sleep over party. We all played pin the tail on the donkey. Yea, I yelled because I got the tail on the donkey. Then 3 other people came. They were Hannah, Patty, and Amy. Then we put our PJ’s on. We cuddled up in the bed. And talked about the coldness out doors. Brrrrr. Then at 12 o’clock all of us fell asleep. AAaa... shoooo.....ahhhaa.... shoooo.

The next morning I ate 6 waffles for breakfast. Then I had to go home for church. When it was night time I put my PJ’s on and went to sleep. The End

When My Sister was Born

“Hi! I am the Narrator. Come and see the author.”

“Hi, I am the author. I like to write . I wrote this book because those who are going to have a sister or brother will know how I felt.”

When my mom was pregnant I was so excited to have a sister. When my mom was at the hospital I was in the car with Dada. When we were waiting I didn’t have my seat belt on. I was standing.

My dad said, “All right, let;s go in.” I was skipping across the parking lot. I was gripping my dad’s hand. We got in the building. I skipped across the hall. I stopped. Where was the room. Finally I got to the right room.

I walked into the room... I froze. There it was. The moment I have been waiting for. A brand new baby was in my mom’s warm arms. I got to hold he/she.

“Is it a boy or a girl?” I asked.

“It is a girl!” Mom says.

“What are you going to name her?” I asked?

“I like Barb,” Mom says.

“Can I hold Barb?” I said.

“Sure,” Mom said. Ella’s hair was as soft as a kitten.

“I am going to have a smiley sister.” I said.
I have a great life and it will be once and for all.

(22)

The Wisconsin Book

This summer I went to Wisconsin. I took a while. I was bored because I had nothing to do. I said, “Mom, what can I do?”

“Look out your window.”

“Never mind,” I said.

We finally got there. We checked in. I was excited to se our place. We had to stay in a hotel. Me and my sister had to share a room but my brother got his own room. It was the living room. He was lucky. I wanted to have that room. But he got it because he didn’t want to share a room with Barb, so I did instead. When my grandma and grandpa McGillicuty came they took our room. So we had to move into another room again. I said so what because we still got a T.V. We got to go swimming . It was cold at first but we were already there so I jumped in. I had a very good time and then the water got warm. On the last day I said, Do we have to go home?

My mom said yes.

(14)

The Play Date

Yesterday I went to my neighbors house. We pretended we were in Hawaii. We put on a show in front of lots of people.

We played music. Then we went downstairs in her basement. We played in her tent. That was so much fun. I did not want to leave. Then we rushed out the door. We ran down her hill. I felt the cold wind splat through my face. We ran all the way to the house.

We got to my house. We played dress up. It was time to take her home. That was OK because we can play another time.

(22)

Going to the Cabin

It was a very nice morning until my sister came running down the hallway and ran into my room and yelled wake up sissy.

Then I said meanly, “Stop Barb.”

“Come on Sissy!”

I got up and walked into the loft to watch TV with my sister and my brother. A few minutes later my sister had to go to her day care. Then my sister came into the loft and kissed us goodbye. Then kissed our dad good bye because he is bringing Barb to daycare. Me and my brother watched a little more TV. A few minutes later my mom called us down for breakfast. My brother and I hurried down the stairs and picked out what we wanted for breakfast. We chomped it up. Then we went back upstairs to get dressed. After that we went back down stairs to get ready for school. We plopped on our snow pants put on our shoes and zipped up our jackets and put our hat and gloves on. We kissed our mom good bye. Me and my brother rushed out the door and ran to the bus stop. At the bus stop we played with our friends. Then the bus came. We got on the bus and found a seat. Then we got to school and got out of the bus. Then I clomped up the stairs and found my classroom. First we did DOL, second we went to lunch, a few minutes after lunch I went to the cabin. My mom and dad and brother picked me up. We went to daycare to pick up my sister. Then we went to the cabin.

My Aunt’s Wedding

On winter break I went to Utah. On January the third I went to aunt’s wedding I was a flower girl and so was my sister Barb. She’s four years old and she’s in preschool. My other sisters Britta and Brit were bridesmaids. They go with the other bridesmaids but... My sister Brit ws so scared she threw UP! All over her dress. Her throw up came out of her mouth and nose.

“YUCK!” I said to my cousin. I kind of was worried about my sister Brit. I got over it and me and my cousin started practicing going down the isle where the bridesmaids go and flower girls go down.

Then it was time to do the practices. The bridesmaids and next it was my tern and my cousins turn to go down the isle. The people who were in charge of the wedding told my aunt’s husband what to do but my aunt and her husband didn’t practice!

After the practice we ate lunch. It was delicious! I said, “Thank you for the food.”

Last, we did the real wedding. First, the bridesmaids went first. Then the flower girls, me and my cousin. We sat down and stood up when my aunt came out. When they stand by each other one of the helpers were talking and said, “You can kiss now.” They had to kiss twice but I don’t know why. After that I went to my other grandma’s house and took off my dress and played.

After dinner we got in our dresses and went to the place that she got married in. Brit, Barb and I were collecting presents. After that we went to my grandma’s house and went to bed.

The next day we went home. I love UTAH!

(10)

Yesterday, you know what? I saw under my grandma Tammy’s Christmas tree? Presents! WOW!

I said, “What are in them? “

But it is a Christmas surprise.

A few days later it was Christmas. I got excited because it was Christmas Day. I got to finally open my presents. This was totally great!

I opened my first present. It was a I dog soft speaker. My second present was an I dog Dance and an I dog clip and a 5,000 games in one.

For a while I played with my I Dog soft speaker. Then I went to my dad’s house. This was the best Christmas ever.

(6)

At the Cabin

On the day after Thanksgiving my family was going to my grandma and grandpa’s cabin. When our trucks bed was packed up we hit the road. It takes about 2 hours to get to the cabin. I think I fell asleep the first hour. The second hour took almost as long as it takes a sloth to go 3 miles. Note: I felt that is was not this long. When we finally got there I was as excited as Cookie Monster is when he has a lifetime supply of cookies.

I REALLY wanted to get out but my mom said, “Don’t just go running, you have to carry something.

“OK,” me and my brother said.

I unbuckled and jumped out of the pick up truck and jumped over the bed. I was jumping so much you could see that I was excited. “I am c-cold,” I said. I didn’t have my hat and mittens. My dad finally found them and I brought the suitcase down the...

huge snake... No, just kidding, I brought it down the stairs. When I got to the door I went inside. A HUGE sound went toward me, “HI!!!!”

“Hi,” I said. The people there were uncle Darrin, my grandma, my grandpa, my cousin Caroline and my cousin Johnathan.

I set my stuff down on a table and walked to Caroline to hug her. “Glad to see you,” I said.

“You too,” she replied.

Then I hugged my grandma. “Oh Sam,” she said.

I said, “Hey Johnny let’s go up to the loft and play!”

We yelled to uncle Darrin, “Can we play Battle Masters?”

“Yes,” was the answer uncle Darrin sent up to the loft. We started setting up. Uncle Darrin read the cards. When we were done I had won. Then we played Monopoly. The players were me, my brother, Johnny and Caroline. We didn’t finish but Johnny would have won. Anyways we were done and it was time to go to bed. Or was it?????

My mom brought us to wash our hands then we brushed our teeth. We skipped down the stairs. When we got to our bedroom we started arguing about what movie we were going to watch. IN the end we figured it our fairly. We were going to watch “Spy Kid” which is about a few kids trying to steal money from a bank to pay for their dad to get to the hospital. It is not as bad as it sounds, seriously!!!

Just as it ended my mom walked in, she said, “Time to shut off the TV and go to bed, it is 11:45 PM.” Johnny and Caroline were already sleeping so I went to bed... snoring.

When we woke up it was time for pack up. We started packing up the truck again. Then we hit the road. When we got home we unpacked and we walked inside. All the lights were off. It always makes me feel weird.

Be sure to check out the next time I go to the cabin!!

(20)

The Christmas Story

On Christmas day to my... Grandma and Grandpa's house and...

Do you want to know the best part about going there? They have stockings with our names on the stockings. Our family names and our cousins names.

And that is why I like going to my grandma and grandpa’s house. I am very excited to go their next year!

In my stocking I got a MP3 player, a fairy, a ball that looks like a bouncy ball but it has chopsticks inside.

I got some lip smakers and a littlest pet shop for Christmas. Chloe brought her new littlest pet shop monopoly. We played for a while but our grandma called us for lunch. After lunch Chloe and I went back in the basement but instead of playing monopoly we just played Littlest Pep Shop in the basement until...

My brother called us up again but this time I was excited because... THIS TIME WE GOT TO OPEN PRESENTS!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I was very excited to open presents.

I ripped open my presents like Chloe and Taylor my cousins.

We got to watch a movie. It was the “Incredibles.” It was weird. Then we had to go home. When we got home I was tired.

The End
